what motivates your behavior?

I recently learned fascinating parallels to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs with functions in your Human Design chart that you might find useful as well.

Maslow’s chart outlines the needs that motivate our human behavior. For some individuals, the need for self-esteem/willpower function is more important than the need for belonging/emotional intelligence function. For others, the need for creative fulfillment/identity+direction function may be the biggest motivating factor.

What I have found is that prior to Human Design, I've been motivated from my open (white) areas, the functions that are not consistent or reliable instead of what's colored in on my chart. My whole life I have been motivated to have access to basic resources as well as sense of financial and physical well-being (my open drive+stamina, energy resource + survival instinct functions!)

These areas would have been amplified in the last couple of months if I didn’t know how I’m wired. Thankfully, I know not to give in to the heightened pressure from my open areas. It's precisely what I want to avoid. They're my biggest shadows and distractions, areas where I’m strongly influenced by society, that can lead to make hasty mental decisions that are not correct.

Instead, I focus on what is colored in, that’s consistent and reliable, to properly motivate and ground me. Every time I do, there is an immediate sense of physical and mental relief that my fundamental needs will be met. Followed by a strengthened trust muscle that can allow the rest to take care of itself!
